About Art of BarterArt of Barter provides barter brokerage services to approximately 1,400 small business clients located primarily in the Chicagoland area. Member businesses "purchase" goods and services from other member businesses using a cash equivalent "barter credit" in lieu of cash. Art of Barter makes money by charging a cash commission on each transaction. The company has negotiated in excess of $140 million in barter transactions for its members since beginning operation in 1992. Industry BackgroundFor many years people have traded directly with each other.
Barter is nothing new. However, with the advent of the first trade exchange in the late 1960's, using a cash equivalent barter credit in a closed exclusive system infinitely more trading possibilities became possible. We have designed a tightly controlled, exclusive barter system to ensure equity and value for all participants. Our previous experience as major clients to the industry is unique among trade exchange owners. Art of Barter was built from the ground up from the clients perspective. Company History
Before founding the company in 1992, Art of Barter President, Ron Szekeres was a major client of the barter industry. As Director of Barter for Circle Fine Art Corporation (CFA) from 1982 to 1991, Ron Szekeres traded over $10 million in collectible fine art work. Under Ron's leadership, CFA became the model corporate barter client and one of the single largest clients of the barter industry offsetting as much as half of its operating costs with barter. |
